Climate Chart of Tucson and Weather Widget
My name is Kelly and I am a self confessed bird addict.
Birds mean the world to me.
Residing in Southwest Arizona allows me to indulge in the addiction to my heart's content.
Our climate is perfect for birding. Throughout the year birds will migrate from Canada to Mexico and we attract over 500 species in the southwestern region. Our surrounding "Sky Islands" are most famous for hummingbirds, attracting 15 species-the highest diversity north of Mexico. Between April and September, S.E. Arizona becomes "The Hummingbird Capital of the U.S."
Like most dedicated birders I keep a yard list. In 2013, the count was over 68 species and climbing. As of March 2017, we've ticked off 89 species. Not bad for an suburban yard. In May 2018, we reached 100.
Consequently, a majority of my birding is done right behind our house, which sits on an acre lot. We've (my hubby and I) have really worked at making our yard a bird habitat. We've added several feeding stations, plants, and a 30 foot long shallow, natural
stream. They're spoiled here and that's the way we like it!
As I said, they mean the world to me. Please leave comments. (The "like" button doesn't let me know who stopped by to visit).
Hope to see you on the trails. Happy birding!
