While not very dynamic looking, Abert's are recognized by their dark faces, overall brown plumage and unusually long tails. Their tails can be 3.9 to 4.7 inches long... when they aren't missing!
Towhee's are threatened by cowbird nest parasitism and habitat loss as it is, so being attacked by hawks or cats (wild and otherwise), only adds to their list of concerns.
